The auction house is the central core of the World of Warcraft economy, as lucrative as the auction house is, it is also slightly confusing at first. This WoW auction house guide will demonstrate getting started in the auction house as well as the best buying price and best selling price for items.
Where to find auction houses?
Auction houses can be located in the the cities and a few of the towns that are located throughout Azeroth. If you're playing the for the Alliance then auction houses can be located in the following cities; Stormwind, Darnassus, Ironforge and Exodar. If youre playing for the Horde side then the auction houses can be located in Undercity, Ogrimmar, Thunderbluff and Silvermoon City.
Using the auction house
The first thing to do once you reach an auction house is speak with the auctioneer, simply click on the character to start proceeding. To the left of the pane you'll notice that there are categories for items listed, for example; weaponry and armor. By simply clicking on the category you want to explore you'll open a new dialogue window will appear where you can now sift through the items on offer at the auction house.
Filters
It's worth getting familiar with the filters sooner rather than later as this can save a heap of time! There are lots of items available in auction houses and if you don't apply filters and be more specific you could be scouting around in there for hours! To apply a filter you'd simply click on the "All" tab and apply your filters from there.
If by chance you happen to know the name of the item you're trying to acquire then you can just go ahead and punch that into the search filter then click search and see if they have your item you require straight away (be sure to type the item name correctly!).
A nice little tip for the fashion freaks is that you can actually see how an item will look on your character before actually committing to buying it! This is commonly referred to as the dressing room, to do this you'd hold down the CTRL key and then click on the item you want to equip to preview it on your character.
Price Checking
Before you fully commit to buying any item be sure that you know the price first! If you found that the item was good value for money and wanted it there and then, you could "buyout" at the asking price. To do this you would select the item you want to buy then click on the "buyout" tab which can be found at the bottom of the auction house window.
Bidding For An Item
The auction house is no different from a real world auction house (in theory), if you decide to bid for an item you can expect that other players will also be bidding as well. You should definitely start bidding as soon as the auction begins though in case you can get out clean with no competition (highly unlikely but you never know).
To bid on an item you'd click on the bid tab which is located near the "buyout" tab. Note, that when you bid for any given item, the amount of gold you bidded will automatically taken from your funds, if another player does outbid you then the gold that was deducted will be returned to you in the post, check your mailbox!
Selling In The Auction House
Selling items in the auction house is a little more complexed than bidding for items but still easy enough once you've done it a couple of times. If you want make more gold in WoW then auction houses are a safe bet. To get started selling an item in the auction house you'll need to select the "Auctions" tab located to the left of the screen and then place the item you want to sell in the vacant item slot.
You'll need to set a starting price and buyout price for your item. Be sure to know your items monetary worth before placing for sale in the auction. The best way here if you're unsure is to check for the same item in the auction and set your starting and buyout price slightly lower than theirs.Then you'll want to select the duration of your auctioned item to either 12 hrs, 2 hrs or 48 hrs.
Then BINGO, if your item sold successfully you'll receive mail with your WoW gold payment awaiting inside, ready to be collected.
There's a little bit more to truly mastering auction houses but that will get you started and hopefully making some gold.

Sport For All Day 2012 to be held on August 5 will feature activities on Olympic sports to tie in with the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and to show support for Hong Kong athletes taking part in the Games.
To help create an Olympics-themed atmosphere, each of the 18 District Leisure Services Offices (DLSOs) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will choose one Olympic sport as the theme of its free recreation programmes to be held at designated sports centres on August 5.
These Olympic promotion activities will feature demonstrations of Olympic sports by invited athletes or instructors, Olympic sports participation activities, and friendly matches at designated LCSD sports centres in the 18 districts. Exhibition panels will also be displayed at the venues to introduce Sport For All Day and the selected Olympic sports.
The Olympic sports chosen by the 18 DSLOs are fencing, badminton, gymnastics, archery, judo, hockey, boxing, basketball, canoeing, football, cycling, triathlon, taekwondo, handball, shooting, rowing, table tennis and windsurfing.
In addition to these promotion programmes, an array of free activities including exercise demonstrations, parent-child sports programmes, fitness corners and sports participation activities will also be organised for people of all ages to participate in. These activities will be held from 2pm to 6pm on August 5.
Enrolment for free programmes will commence on July 16 at 8.30am at all DLSOs of the LCSD and designated sports venues in 18 districts on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person can collect up to four admission tickets while a small portion of tickets will be reserved for walk-in participants on the event day.
Members of the public are invited to enrol in the free programmes to spend a meaningful and enjoyable Sunday. Details of the designated sports centres and the corresponding Olympic sports are shown in the Annex as attached and are also available at the Sport For All Day webpage: www.lcsd.gov.hk/specials/sfad2012/en/index.php .
The LCSD will also make available various fee-charging leisure facilities for free use by the community on August 5. These facilities include both indoor and outdoor facilities (excluding turf pitches, sports grounds and camping facilities), public swimming pools (excluding Wan Chai Swimming Pool) and craft at water sports centres.
Bookings for free use of the above land-based leisure facilities and craft at water sports centres on August 5 can be made at the Leisure Link booking counters at LCSD venues (except for self-service kiosks) from 9.30am on July 29 (Sunday) on a first-come, first-served basis. This applies to the facilities which have not been block-booked by organisations for August 5. Each person can only book one free session irrespective of the types of leisure facilities. No prior booking is required for the LCSD swimming pool facilities. Interested users only have to line up at the entrance of the swimming pools for free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
Being held for the fourth consecutive year since August 8, 2009, the Sport For All Day this year is one of the highlight events to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It has ?Stay active! Exercise for half an hour daily? as its slogan, and calls on people to engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes each day for a healthy lifestyle.
To further spread the message of doing half an hour of physical activity every day, a new Announcement in the Public Interest has been broadcast on television stations.
The LCSD has written to the 18 District Councils, National Sports Associations and community sport organisations, as well as privately run sports clubs and health centres, to enlist their support for Sport For All Day. The response has been encouraging, with over 30 organisations taking up the appeal by offering free activities and opening their facilities for the use of their members or teachers and students of tertiary institutions on August 5. The event is expected to attract more than 4,000 participants. Some of the District Councils will also provide financial support to community organisations in organising recreation programmes for the public with an aim of encouraging people to engage in physical activity and to show support for the Hong Kong athletes taking part in the Olympic Games.

Chapel Hill, N.C. ? The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill spent nearly $67,000 in legal services and fees in a three-month span in 2010 while dealing with the fallout of NCAA violations and an academic scandal, according to a 208-page release Wednesday.
The heavily redacted documents also shed some light on some of the academic improprieties that were going on between members of the football team and an unnamed tutor.
In one email exchange, an unidentified student-athlete reaches out to a tutor saying, ?Please help. I?m going down,? with a two-and-a-half page, single-spaced paper attached.
A response to the email shortly thereafter reads, ?I looked over your paper, and expanded it in a lot of areas!!! You are now at 8 ? pages!!!?
In a Statement of Facts compiled by the university, the student-athlete said he worked with the unnamed tutor ?approximately 20-25 times? including getting assistance on 10 to 12 papers even though he was only questioned on two of them.
In a deposition on Sept. 8, Amy Herman, associate athletic director for compliance at UNC, said that it was a search of select football players' email accounts in the summer of 2010 that led them to suspect academic problems on the team.
In a June 2, 2011, notice of allegations sent out by the NCAA, former football player Michael McAdoo was declared ineligible for receiving improper assistance from tutor Jennifer Wiley "on multiple assignments across several academic terms." McAdoo was later found to have heavily plagiarized at least one paper while at UNC.
McAdoo has since moved on to the NFL, but he is appealing the November dismissal of his lawsuit that seeks damages after he was ruled ineligible for his senior season.
According to the documents released Wednesday, UNC filed nearly a dozen Requested Reinstatement forms to the NCAA as a result of unethical conduct, extra benefit and preferential treatment violations in regards to academic improprieties.
The most recent documents were made public in response to a public records request made by multiple media outlets, including Capitol Broadcasting Co., the parent company of WRALSportsFan They are only a portion of the requested documents leading up to a July 19 hearing on a joint lawsuit that lists former athletics director Dick Baddour, former head football coach Butch Davis, Chancellor Holden Thorp and Director of Public Safety Jeff McCracken as defendants.
The lawsuit still seeks communications between the law firm and the university, as well as recordings in their possession, an unredacted copy of UNC?s submission to the NCAA sent in September and records of Davis? personal phone that was used for university business.

They received a lot of free legal help if the bill was only 67k. There is a complete lack of integrity on behalf of UNC in their investigation and reporting of these activities and in the conducting of scam ficticious classes with phantom professors giving ATHLETES credit for doing no or virtually no work. Most people killed or wounded in stray-bullet shootings were unaware of events leading to the gunfire that caused their injuries, and nearly one-third of the victims were children and nearly half were female, according to a new nationwide study examining an often-overlooked form of gun violence.
The study by Garen Wintemute, professor of emergency medicine and director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center, examines mortality rates and other epidemiological aspects of stray-bullet shootings over a one-year period. It is published in the July issue of The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
"Stray-bullet shootings alter the nature of life in many American neighborhoods, creating fear and anxiety and prompting parents to keep children indoors and take other precautions," Wintemute said. "When we think about gun violence, we think about high-profile and tragic events like Virginia Tech or the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. But stray-bullet shootings affect entire communities every day, and there has been almost no research exploring them."
Unlike the risk pattern for violence in general, which typically affects young males, most victims of stray bullets were outside the 15-to-34 age range, and nearly half (44.8 percent) were females, the study found. Many of the people shot (40.7 percent) were at home at the time of the incident, and of these, most (68.2 percent) were indoors.
In one case that typifies the random nature of these events, a toddler in New York was standing in her grandparents' house, where her family had gathered to watch a football game, when a bullet fired by a hunter 378 feet away came through the home's wall and struck the child in the torso. She died soon after at a local hospital.
In another case, a 51-year-old Ohio woman was paralyzed and later died when a bullet fired by a teenager shooting at two other fleeing teens struck her in the neck as she crossed the street near her home. Four days later, another woman driving on the same street was wounded by a stray bullet as two groups of teenagers fired at each other.
"Victims of stray bullets are essentially 'collateral damage' and are usually disconnected from the events that lead to their injury or death," Wintemute said. "They are innocent bystanders who typically have no opportunity to flee or take any other preventive measures."
To gather data for the study, Wintemute and his colleagues used Google and Yahoo! news alerting services and the news archives of GunPolicy.org to track stories published between March 2008 and February 2009 that contained the phrase "stray bullet." He defined stray-bullet shootings as episodes involving a bullet that escaped an intended sociogeographic space and injured at least one person, either from the gunshot itself or a secondary mechanism, such as an injury from glass sent flying by a bullet.
Within that framework, the study team identified 284 stray-bullet shootings events, in which 317 people were killed or injured. Most of the people shot (81 percent) were unaware of the events leading to the gunfire that caused their injuries. Of the 65 people who died during the monitoring period, most died on the day they were shot, and many died at the shooting scene.
The shootings were concentrated in big cities, and included scenarios involving violent conflicts (59.2 percent), hunting and other shooting sports (7.4 percent), and unknown activities (22.9 percent). Despite its frequent occurrence, celebratory gunfire related to holidays such as July 4th caused relatively few stray bullet injuries, accounting for less than 5 percent of the cases.
One limitation of the current study, Wintemute said, is its reliance on media reports to quantify stray-bullet shootings, which may have resulted in an underestimation of their frequency.
Wintemute said he hopes the findings will raise awareness of stray-bullet shooting and help lead to the expansion of preventive measures, such as "hot-spot policing," which involves increasing enforcement of firearm laws in areas with high levels of gun violence.
"Wearing body armor or taking other extreme protective measures is just not practical on a widespread scale, so we need to look at other ways to help communities feel safe from such events," Wintemute said. "Given that these stray-bullet shootings are a byproduct of gun violence in general, it's plausible that if you prevent the violence, you'll prevent the stray-bullet shootings."

Drayson Racing's B12/69EV sets new Goodwood record, electric cars move further up the grid
Speed and cars go together like jam and sandwiches. Relatively speaking, electric vehicles, have still been slicing the loaf, while their fossil-fueled cousins slather on the thick, fruity speed. Things are changing though, as eloquently demonstrated by Drayson Racing at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The EV set a new race record for an electric machine, coming in at 53.91 seconds on its second run. So, while the 850 horsepower B12/69EV came 11th overall, it does show that the capabilities of the emission-less engines are making ground. With the recent record at the Nürburgring also tumbling, perhaps it's time to reassess your motoring lunch bag.
